• Do you collect plants from the wild?
    Our plants are sustainably collected from the wild, mostly by seed. Occasionally, we harvest whole plants or cuttings only when it can be done responsibly. We take just enough to establish plants in our garden and then harvest seeds from those plants to grow in the following years.

  • Where do your plants and seeds come from?
    We buy and harvest our seeds from Oklahoma and neighboring states. We never buy plugs or purchase plants from outside of our local ecotype to ensure genetic integrity.

  • Do you ship plants?
    We do not ship plants, but we do offer $10.00 delivery to Tulsa and surrounding areas on orders of $50.00 or more. Enter your zip code at checkout to see if you’re in our delivery area!

  • Do you use pesticides?
    We are committed to saving pollinators. We will never spray our plants with any chemical, ever.

  • Do you offer gift cards or certificates?
    We do! Check out the gift card section on our home page to purchase one.

  • What is your warranty or return policy?
    We encourage customers to ask questions before purchasing and to use the information on our website to assess their planting site. However, if your plants aren’t thriving, contact
    us within 30 days via our website, Facebook, or email at PaintedPrairieNursery@gmail.com
    and we’ll work with you to figure out what went wrong and do our best to make it right.

  • Do you offer garden design, consulting, or planting services?
    At this time, we do not offer garden design, planting services, or in-person consulting due to a small staff. However, if you need plant recommendations, feel free to message us with details like soil type, sun exposure, and water availability, and we’ll suggest plants that might do well in your space. If you’re looking for professional help, we’re happy to recommend landscapers who specialize in native plants, just ask!

  • Do you recycle pots and trays?
    Yes! Don't throw your pots away! Returning customers can bring back our pots for credit on their next order. (3.5’’ = 10 cents, 1 Gallon = 50 cents)

  • Are all the plants you sell native to Oklahoma?
    Yes! Every plant we grow and sell is native to Oklahoma according to BONAP. No exceptions.

  • Can I grow native plants if I live in a neighborhood with an HOA?
    Absolutely! Many native plants fit beautifully into formal landscapes and meet HOA guidelines.

  • When is the best time to plant perennials?
    It depends on the plant, but spring and fall are typically the best times to plant in Oklahoma, giving roots time to establish before extreme heat or cold.

  • What’s the difference between a pollinator garden and a regular flower bed?
    A pollinator garden uses native plants that provide nectar, pollen, and host plants for butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects. Regular flower beds often feature non-native plants that may look nice but offer little to support local wildlife.

  • What if I don’t have a large yard - can I grow native plants in pots?
    Absolutely! Many native plants do well in containers. Just be sure to choose deep pots for deep-rooted species and provide good drainage.
